The eleventh edition (2013) of Colin Speakman’s “Dales Way” has just been published by Skyware Ltd of Shipley. It has been brought completely up to date, with some minor changes in comparison to the previous 2011 edition. All of the photographs are now in colour, and in every way the book is an attractive piece of work and a delight to use as a guide (or to dip into for pleasure). The route descriptions and the maps alongside the text are excellent. There are erudite mini-articles on the many features of interest along the 78 mile Dales Way route, and this makes the book not just a valuable guide, but an enjoyable book in its own right – and what else would one expect from a book by Colin!
Skyware Ltd have also published a second edition of Tony and Chris Grogan’s route guide to “A Dales High Way”, the high level long-distance path across the Dales from Saltaire to Appleby. The attractively produced guide has detailed maps providing a very clear description of the route, and there are photographs and notes on features of interest.
