description

The maximum number of people on this walk will be 15, including the walk leaders.

This beautiful, varied, linear walk starts in Hebden Bridge Railway Station and almost immediately gets out into open countryside.

The walk is fairly easy for those with walking experience with the exception of a few hills.  This walk goes through stunning open country with spacious fields so the route naturally works well for a socially distanced walk.

A section of the walk can feel quite exposed so please bring adequate clothing and sufficient food/drink – if in doubt please ask /check the Kit Section alongside the walks diary page on this site. It can be muddy in short sections so you may wish to wear gaiters.

Walkers will have the opportunity to take the few moments to climb Stoodley Pike monument itself and take in the fabulous panoramic views.

The latter part of the walk is along a moorland path with fantastic views on a clear day. The walk then descends into Todmorden.

The walk is timed to start to meet those arriving at Hebden Bridge on the train.  There is a car park at Hebden Bridge Railway Station.  At the end of the walk, the walk leaders will be taking the five minute train journey from Todmorden back to Hebden Bridge and the starting point. Please note hand sanitizer and a mask are required for public transport.

As an alternative option;  After the Take a Hike Walk has finished, you could always choose to independently walk back to the starting point. This is a short, flat walk of 4.5 miles and a straight along the canal.  A canal path allows less opportunities for social distancing if we all go as a group, the reason this is not included in the Take A Hike walk.

COVID-19
Due to COVID-19, we all need to take extra steps to stay safe. Please follow all safety advice given by the walk leader, including the latest guidelines on physical distancing.
